SITAR

A journey to India gave me the opportunity to buy a marvellous indian musical instrument: the Sitar. Its sound really evokes echoes from another culture and exotic country

The sitar has a string on which you play melodies (tuned in F), and other 6 strings for accompainments, used as drone. These strings are tuned in C and G.
Behind these strings, there are a set of resonant strings which normally are not played, but can eventually give that "notes falling" effect typical of indian music. These strings resonates as you play the melody and the drones, and are an important part of the overall sitar sound.

Sampling a sitar is really difficult, expeacially vecause the sitar style of playing involves the use of particular nuances, microtuned notes, extreme bending, and, most important, the resonance of the strings. Beware of sampled sitar libraries! :)

Here you can listen to some small phrases played by me on the sitar

The sitar was used for the soudtrack of Kerale video, for the song "Mezrab" from the album "MAZE" and for the song "Un profumo lontano" from the album "ILLUSIONI".

Drivhell, an italian prog-metal band was recording its album "A Journey as a Life" at Realsound Studio (Langhirano (Parma, Italy), and asked me to play a sitar part in a song.
I recorded a few notes, but this added some special flavour to an already very nice piece!

Listen to the part I have recored, mixed with the other instruments, before the mastering process

You can even watch the video of the recording on youtube!
